Tractor crash is last straw for commuters
7:30am Saturday 14th September 2013 in News
A tractor lost its load, causing delays for commuters, yesterday.
The tractor carrying bales of hay tipped onto its side shortly after 2pm at the George Lane and Granham Hill roundabout, in Marlborough.
It left hay strewn across the the road and because of the location led to tailbacks in four directions.
The lengthy queues led to heavy delays for drivers heading away for the weekend and parents picking up their children from school.
Police were called to help manage the traffic and clear up the hay but were forced to close the roundabout while a clear-up operation took place.
An ambulance was also called to the scene as a precaution but no-one was hurt.
Prior to the arrival of the police nearby farmers turned up with trailers to speed up the process before farming equipment was used to get the tractor and trailer back upright.
The roundabout remained closed for more than hour before traffic got on the move again.
