Site owners apologise to Tryon Close residents about problems
THE owners of a disused dental surgery, which has been plagued by break-ins and anti-social behaviour, have apologised to residents for the problems it has caused.
People living in Tryon Close, Liden, said their street has been targeted by youths boozing in the derelict building, which is owned by Platinum Property Partners Swindon.
Around four weeks ago a fence and a tree were pulled down by the developers, stripping the building of its security.
Platinum director Emma Langley said she was ‘deeply sorry’ for any inconvenience caused by the property being left in an unsecure position.
“I feel really awful for the residents,” said Emma.
“I deeply want to apologise for any inconvenience that they have had to endure.”
Police were called to the building at 4pm on Thursday after reports of a broken door. Patrols are going to be stepped up on the road after many residents complained youths had been breaking into the building.
Emma said when police notified her about the anti-social behaviour taking place at the site, a fence was put up immediately.
The building was in the process of being renovated by Platinum, which, subject to planning permission, plans to transform the former surgery into a multiple-occupancy house.
Tryon Close resident Janet Jelley said a number of frightened elderly residents had contacted her.
“We have been saying for ages they need to do something about it,” she said.
“This is a family close, we don’t want those sorts of people hanging around here. When you get big open buildings like that it always attracts those sorts of people.”
Kathleen Gillespie, 65, also of Tryon Close, said she was pleased the fence has been put up.
She said: “It’s more to protect the children. We don’t want that sort of thing going on.”
He said: “Some of the local residents have been really petrified by this. Because it’s a private property the council was unable to help when I called about this weeks ago.”
