Safe electrics backed by MP
11:10am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
NORTH Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson is throwing his weight behind improving electrical safety at home, by raising awareness of the importance of using a registered electrician.
ElectricSafe is a single, recognisable register of competent electricians from across England and Wales.
The register is free to join for full scope electricians on a DCLG authorised electrical Competent Persons Scheme.
It is designed to make finding, identifying and checking electricians easier than ever before.
It strives to eliminate jargon and complexity, bringing a simple message of electrical safety to every household.
About 3,340 UK people were admitted to hospital following an electric shock during 2010/11. In 2011/12, there were 3,822 domestic electrical fires in Britain, resulting in 14 deaths.
Mr Tomlinson said: “Electrical safety in the home is an important and life-threatening issue, as shown by statistics.
“It’s important that the general public are aware of the simple steps they can take to reduce potential electrical risks.
“The most important of these, and a precaution we can all take, is to hire a competent, registered electrician when requiring electrical work to be done.
“I fully support the efforts of organ-isations like ElectricSafe, that exist to raise awareness and make it easy for the public to find a registered electrician.”
