Pupils invited to make road safety posters
7:20am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
SWINDON Council has joined forces with optician company Specsavers to promote a programme of events to encourage pupils to abandon the car and walk to school.
Events include mass walks to school in the last full week before half-term, from October 14 to 18. Specsavers is sponsoring a competition for primary pupils to design a poster which promotes a ‘see and be seen’ message.
David Grieves, the firm’s Swindon store director, said: “The message is something we feel strongly about. It’s important children are safe on their walk to and from school.”
The competition asks pupils to design an A4-sized poster to encourage children who walk, scoot or cycle to school to wear hi-vis materials during the darker autumn and winter months.
Posters will be displayed in the firm’s Regent Street store at half-term, and winners – who will receive arts sets – will be chosen by the store’s staff.
