Join the Rush for Soup Run to help homeless
11:00am Monday 14th October 2013 in News
HOMELESS charity Threshold Housing Link is inviting runners and walkers to ‘Join the Rush for the Soup Run 2013’ and divert from their normal running or walking route, to finish at Culvery Court Emergency Hostel with a tin or packet of food to donate.
Culvery Court in Harding Street will be opening its doors to runners and walkers on October 24 between 4pm and 8pm and again on November 7 between noon and 5pm to accept donations of tinned soup or other non perishable food.
These donations will help to replenish the store of food that is then donated to Swindon’s homeless throughout the winter months.
Any money raised will provide vital funds to support the work of the charity’s Outreach Service who last month made contact on 1,085 occasions with 67 people in need, of which 14 people stated that they were rough sleeping.
Anyone and everyone can enter the event, which is free. Entrants can run or walk at any time of their own choosing as long as they complete the run between allotted times.
Those walking home from school, shopping or work can just pop along and make a donation and those who take a lunchtime or evening run can also drop by during the course of their training session.
If people want to get sponsored for the distance they cover and their efforts, official sponsor forms are provided. Anyone who raises sponsorship of over £20 will receive a free Soup Run t-shirt.
Threshold CEO Cher Sawyer Smith said: “If we can get 100 people to take part and they each bring one can of soup and raise just £10 for their efforts, Threshold can heat up soup for those in need for just over one month, and our Street Outreach Service can attend the Thursday evening Soup Run operated by The Filling Station for almost three months.”
Contact Threshold on 01793 524661 for your fundraising pack then collect your sponsorship and/or run with your food donation.
To make a donation to the charity text THRS01 with the amount of your donation e.g. THRS01 £5/£10 to 70070
