UPDATED: Major crash causes chaos on the M4 and around Swindon

THE M4 remains closed between junctions 14 and 15 eastbound due to an accident this morning involving a car, a van and a car transporter.
The incident happened at 12.20am, approximately a mile east of junction 15.
The eastbound carriageway remains closed between junction 15 for east Swindon and junction 14 for Hungerford .
The Highways Agency said investigations into the crash are likely to keep the eastbound side closed for several hours. Drivers are advised to follow the diversions featuring the hollow circle symbol on the A419 towards Swindon, the B4192 towards Hungerford and A338 back to the M4.
Police said the crash led to several serious injuries.
The Highways Agency said: "The Highways Agency has been advised that the police investigation is unlikely to be completed before the end of this morning's peak travel period and drivers are advised to avoid the area if at all possible and seek alternative routes or delay journeys untl the route has fully re-opened probably mid-morning. A safety barrier and carriageway inspection for damage will also need to take place before the motorway can full re-open again.
A diversion between junction 15 and 14 is in place for eastbound traffic. The signed diversion is advising all eastbound drivers leaving the motorway at junction 15 to follow the 'hollow circle' diversion symbol via the A419 north towards Swindon, B4192 eastbound towards Hungerford then the A338 north to rejoin the M4 at J14.
"Drivers heading westbound are likely to experience heavy congestion with the westbound carriageway down to only one lane while the police investigation and recovery work continues."
Highways Agency traffic officers from its depot at Stanton St Quintin have been at the scene throughout the incident managing traffic.
Police and fire service freed drivers trapped in the wreckage by 3am. Traffic officers began turning vehicles around on the eastbound carriageway and sending them back to junction 15.
The accident has meants that roads around Swindon and out towards Marlborough, including the A419, A420 and A346 are jammed with traffic trying to avoid the chaos.
