Brownies is booming
1:30pm Monday 21st October 2013 in News
THE Ogbourne Brownies have gone from strength to strength since they opened 18 months ago, and now a new Guide group is launching as well.
The group was set up in February 2012 with just eight girls, but now there are 26 members and a waiting list of more than 10.
After the success of the Brownies, an Ogbourne Rainbows group was created in September 2012 for five to seven-year-olds.
Ogbourne Rainbows leader Sarah Cooper said: “We decided to launch the Rainbows group because a lot of the girls who came to Brownies had little sisters who wanted to join.
“I lead the group with Lou Webb and we have 19 girls and they love it. It’s so nice to see them come into the group quite shy and quiet and watch their confidence grow and see them become outspoken.”
The Brownies now have girls coming up to their 10th birthday, when they would usually move up to the Aldbourne Guides, but the group is full so Ogbourne is starting a group of its own.
Mrs Cooper said: “The Aldbourne Guides take girls from their Brownies group so our girls are on the waiting list.
“They are very excited that we are starting our own group because they have made some good friends at Brownies and now they can stay with us all the way up.”
The group is starting after half term in November and the leaders are looking for girls aged 10 to 14 from the Marlborough area to join them.
The groups meet every Tuesday at Ogbourne St George and St Andrew Primary School from 4.30pm.
