ELDERLY people who attend the popular singing sessions organised by the Golden-Oldies Charity raised the roof at their Big Sing last Saturday at the Punjabi Centre in Cricklade Road.
Goldies, as it is more fondly known, was started by former Swindonian Grenville Jones in 2008 with four singing sessions in and around Bath where he lives.
The work of the charity has grown to 70 sessions across the South West and South Wales.
Goldies in Swindon started four years ago with the support of Swindon Council and new sessions were added across Wiltshire this year. Grenville said: “The ethos of our charity is to give people who are isolated and lonely the opportunity to get out, meet others and most importantly smile. We sing along to the popular hits of the 50s onwards.
“We were delighted that the Deputy Mayor Teresa Page was able to come on Saturday.
“I would like to also thank the members of the Thamesdown Ladies Choir who entertained our Goldies and also the children from Westlea Primary School and Brook Field Primary School who also came to sing for us.”
