McDonald's staff to boost hospital campaign
STAFF at every McDonald’s restaurant in town donned fancy dress and grabbed a collection bucket for the Great Western Hospital on Saturday.
Teaming up with the Adver they were looking to raise money as part of our Making It Better campaign, which is looking to raise £20,000 to help improve the experience of children and families in the emergency department.
To help them in their quest, Alfie the Alligator spent the day travelling between each restaurant in the vintage Adver bus.
Starting at the Greenbridge branch, they travelled around four others before finishing up at the Great Western Way.
Several collection buckets were taken between each restaurant and there are still buckets in each venue if people want to go in to donate.
Along the way they met hundreds of customers, all eager to donate to the cause.
James Cottrell, the manager of the town centre restaurant, was sponsored by his staff to dress up as a woman for the day, collecting more than £300.
He said: “It’s been really fun day and for a great local cause.
“The customers and the staff have all really got behind this today so I think we are going to raise a really good amount. Some of the costumes have been great.
“Our regular customers have been coming in to donate and then going away and telling their friends to come in and put in a donation.
James believes that one of the reasons so many people have given money is because it is a cause so close to many people’s hearts.
He said: “As a restaurant we were raising money for the GWH when it first opened ten years ago so it is a cause we have a history of supporting.
“Many people in Swindon use, have used or know someone who has had to use the emergency department so it is very personal to a lot of people.”
If you would like to donate, visit the Just Giving page at www.justgiving. com/GWH-ED-Appeal or text GWED50 with your amount to 70070. People can also claim gift aid at no extra cost.
Alternatively, donate by cheque, make a donation in person at the cashiers’ office on the ground floor, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cheques can be made out to Great Western Hospital and sent to Fundraising Manager, Fundraising Department, Trust HQ, Floor Two, Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN3 6BB.
