Man, 25, accused of kidnapping is released on bail
6:00pm Monday 28th October 2013 in News
A MAN who is accused of kidnapping another man in Chiseldon has been released on bail by a judge.
Amritpar Chahal is also charged with robbery in relation to the alleged incident on Wednesday, October 2.
It is alleged the 25-year-old and an accomplice kidnapped Ravi Agarwal from the petrol station on the A345 at Chiseldon shortly after 1pm.
It is said they drove the 33-year-old against his will to Marlborough where he was beaten and robbed before being dumped at a remote farm in Ogbourne St George.
No charges were formally put to Chahal, of Porthcawl, south Wales, and he did not enter any pleas.
He is said to have robbed Mr Agarwal of money, his wallet, a mobile phone and jewellery.
Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, January 3, and released Chahal on conditional bail until then.
He must live at an address in Hounslow, London, observe a night-time curfew, stay out of Wiltshire, report to the police three times a week and put up a £5,000 surety.
The judge also ordered that he surrender his passport, but he was told it was being held by the Home Office in support of his wife’s application for British citizenship.
