Chatterbox Paul zips it up for hospital baby unit
12:50pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
POPULAR customer service assistant Paul Antill zipped it up and didn’t speak during an eight hour shift yesterday to raise money for charity.
He said: “It’s a great cause and the work they all do is just so important and I wanted to raise some money.
“They do an amazing job and they are always desperate for money to fund new equipment. They save little babies’ lives.
“We had already raised more than £200 for SCBU and I wanted to raise £400.
“We are also going to go up to the Great Western Hospital afterwards to hand over the cheque.”
Paul, who is a well-known chatterbox around Toothill, said the challenge was tough but he was glad he got through it thanks to the help of specially designed cards.
Customers also donated their spare change in the buckets in front of his till.
He said: “I am always talking to my customers so it was quite a challenge to stay silent for the whole shift.
“I’m forever chatting to the customers and I am quite well known in Toothill but it was exciting. It was a good challenge.”
His eight-hour silence during his shift at the store made for a spooky surprise for his customers, many of whom tried to get him to speak.
He also joined other members of staff getting into the Halloween spirit by dressing up.
