ROTARY clubs have joined forces again this year to raise funds for local charities at the annual Last Night of the Proms event at the Wyvern Theatre.

Now in its eighth year, the event, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Swindon and Swindon Old Town, will be held on Saturday, November 16 at 7.30pm in aid of Prospect Hospice and Swindon Young Musicians.

The concert is an opportunity for young local musicians to showcase their talents. Last year alone the show raised £4,000.

Organising committee chairman Bob Barrett said: “We are immensely proud of the event. Not only because it raises money for two very worthwhile charities, but also because it allows the young musicians of Swindon to play to an audience who appreciate their skills in playing classical music.

“In keeping with the evening’s well-established theme, this year The Waterloo Band and The Bugles of the Rifles will perform classics such as Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem, accompanied by soprano soloist Lynn Hawkins.

“In addition, members of Swindon Young Musicians will perform familiar music from stage and screen including songs from Les Miserables to the theme music from James Bond blockbuster Skyfall.”

Tickets cost £16 and are available from the Wyvern Theatre ticket office on 01793 524481.
