Lord Lieutenant selects cadet guard of honour
6:40pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
THE Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton, has chosen the five Cadets who will accompany her in 2014 on royal visits and other official engagements.
They were hand-picked from each of the uniformed Cadet organisations – the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and the Air Training Corps (ATC) – and also from the Combined Cadet Forces run by schools, after showing exceptional dedication and skill at their respective units.
Certificates and badges were presented during a ceremony held at Devizes Town Hall, where Lord-Lieutenant’s certificates of meritorious service were also presented to long-serving, dedicated members of the reserves and the cadet forces.
Among those chosen on their merits in the force and for work in the community is Cadet Corporal Thomas Clayton, of 633 Squadron Air Training Corps in Swindon who has qualified as an instructor cadet as well as completing a solo gliding scholarship. He attends New College and has an ambition to join the RAF.
Cadet Corporal Luke Cordas, also of 633 Squadron Air Training Corps, who attends Bradon Forest School, was also chosen. He is a qualified master air cadet and is involved in sports and fundraising.
As well as hosting royal visits, the Lord-Lieutenant acts as the Queen’s representative in making awards.
She attends Remembrance parades and awards the Elizabeth Cross to next of kin of armed forces personnel killed on active service.
