RUCHI has been crowned the king of Swindon’s Indian restaurants after the venue won more than 25 per cent of the Adver’s curry awards votes.
More than 2,000 people voted in the awards, which saw curry houses across the borough going head-to-head in a bid to take the prestigious title.
Ruchi, based in Victoria Road, has been open since 1990. It bagged first place with a total of 680 votes.
Owner Shemon Miah said he wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who supported his restaurant. He said Ruchi had the edge on its competitors because it managed to build up a strong customer base over the years.
“I’m very proud and excited to have won this award,” said Shemon, 31. “We have a lot of regular customers who all said they were happy to vote for us. There are a lot of nice restaurants out there so we were very happy when we heard.”
He said his favourite dish at the eatery was a Chicken Ujalle, as the spice was subtle enough to allow people to taste all of the different ingredients used.
Assistant manager Mohammed Amin said he was really pleased to win.
“Around 85 per cent of our customers are regulars so we get to know them very well,” said Mohammed, 27.
In the coming months, the restaurant will undergo a redecoration. For more details about Ruchi visit www.ruchiswindon.co.uk
