LOCAL engineering student Alistair Senior has won a top scholarship.

At an awards ceremony last week, Alistair, who used to attend Churchfields Academy, was awarded the Belling Engineering Scholarship, worth £3,000 per annum.

Alistair studied A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Electronics and Chemistry at New College. While there he went on a volunteer trip to Kenya and decided to become involved in engineering projects during his vacation periods alongside studying Engineering at the University of Cambridge.

He has worked for Swindon Design Limited, creating 3D drawings of manufacturing tools for use by Honda and BMW. He has also run and raced his own kart for the past five years and hopes to be involved in the Eco-racing and Formula Student teams at Cambridge before hopefully working as an engineer in Formula 1.

The Belling Engineering Scholarship is open to British citizens who expect to achieve 3 ‘A’ grades at A-levels, 3 ‘A’ grade Advanced Highers, 5 ‘A’ grade Highers or an International Baccalaureate Diploma at 36 points or above.

The scholarship is open to students who will commence an IET accredited MEng degree in the next academic session.
