BOXING legend Frank Bruno made a visit to a new-look gym at the weekend and gave it his seal of approval.
The former heavyweight champion was in town as special guest at a social event at the Grange Community Centre to promote the charity MIND.
While there he was invited to come and take a look at the centre’s new refurbished gym.
Nigel Chalk, who is the chairman of finance at Stratton Parish Council, said: “He seemed really impressed with the new look.
“We have just bought in all-new equipment, which Frank said is exactly what he would use.
“He had a look at a lot of the kit and equipment we use and even tried out some of it.”
The community centre is currently undergoing a £1m makeover that, as well as the gym, will also see it gain an outdoor all-weather pitch.
The sports hall will also be getting a new roof and floor, with the old gym space becoming the new parish offices.
Nigel said: “He wasn’t initially going to come to the gym but when I found out that he was coming I invited him to come have a look and he accepted.
“Frank was exactly the gentle giant you see from the television. He was polite and chatty and it was a really nice evening.”
