PROGRESS at a new leisure complex in Swindon town centre has cranked up a notch as the framework of the two main buildings on the site continues to grow.

The former Swindon College site in Regent Circus has begun to loom over the surrounding estates as the new complex takes clearer shape.

Last week, the frame of the second building went up and the top of the supermarket was fitted.

The roof on the second building, which will be the new Cineworld cinema, has also now been fitted.

When completed, the site will house a Morrisons and a host of restaurants alongside the cinema.

Last week James Digby, a director at Ashfield Land which is the site developer, said that everything is on track and by this time next year the people of Swindon will be able to enjoy the facility.

He added: “As it stands everything is going to plan.

“The roof of the supermarket section is nearly on and we have started work on the second part which will house the cinema and restaurants.

“You can now see the outline of the cinema in the frame.

“We are on schedule to be able to hand everything over at Easter to be fitted out ready to open in October.”
