BREAKDANCING children were given the chance to test out their skills against one another at a dance-off in the town centre on Sunday run by one of Swindon’s most experienced teachers.

Sixteen seven to 11-year-olds descended upon Quasar in Havelock Square, where they were challenged with a round robin competition to determine the best of Banxy’s students from the range of dance schools he works in.

Banxy, 44, said he organises the contests to ensure his students keep on top of their practising and continue to improve themselves.

As parents of the children watched on, Deano, an 11-year-old student of Banxy’s at Swindon Dance, span to victory, holding off brothers Otis and Marcel in second and third place.

“I needed to get all these children in one place to see each other and see they are not the only kids breakdancing in Swindon,” said Banxy.

“You get good in your own space and getting everyone together is a good way of reminding them they still have ways to improve.

“You can only teach them for so long without having an event. They need something to work towards. They see each other and know there are a lot more doing it around Swindon.

“This is the first time we have an event of this size for the younger age group, and I have been teaching for 30 years in Swindon.”
