PENSIONERS were treated to a two-course meal at the County Ground on Wednesday as part of Swindon Town’s ongoing commitment to the community.

Four care homes brought their residents along to the Christmas event, which was shared by 10 Adver competition winners.

The two courses were followed by a raffle, bingo, Father Christmas and an audience with three of the League Cup winning Swindon Town team from 1969, Don Rogers, Joe Butler and Roger Smart.

Mark Isaacs, the stadium manager at Swindon Town, said: “It’s normally held annually and the club normally invites pensioners from across the town through adverts over our website.

“This year we did it differently. We were trying to do it for people more worthy of a lunch on us this year. We invited four or five care homes along.

“The whole principle is giving something back to the community.

“We had 100 people here. It was sponsored by the supporters’ club and PrePay Solutions, a business in Swindon.

“It’s important that we continue to do things like this with the community.”
