Trek across Sahara to show support for hospice
9:32am Friday 3rd January 2014 in News
PEOPLE with a taste for adventure are being asked to get in touch with Prospect Hospice to learn about the charity’s overseas challenge next October, for a trek across the Sahara desert.
The challenge, which promises an unforgettable week crossing the Sahara in aid of the Wroughton-based charity, already has 12 people signed up for a fundraising experience that will take trekkers across an arid but fascinating landscape.
The challenge starts in Marrakech, from where travellers set off for a unique 70km journey with Berber tribesmen.
Four dads have signed up and are in training for the rigours of their north African venture. Three of the four – Andy Spurgeon, Sam Allen and Garry Wilkinson – met through their young sons’ playing for Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club, while the fourth, Mike Clarke, is a neighbour of Andy’s, and an experienced traveller and charity fundraiser.f Andy said: “I live in Wroughton, so Prospect Hospice is on my doorstep, and I think we should be supporting the charities in our own community.”
Registration is still open for the challenge, Visit www.prospect-hospice.net/sahara.
