SOUTHFIELD Junior School prides itself on being a caring and friendly school where work is varied and challenging and every child is valued.

Staff at the school, which converted to an academy in September 2011, believe a child’s education should be based on a partnership between the home and the school. They believe all parents should be fully involved in their child’s learning.

The school has a close relationship with parents and the community and aims to continue this co-operation for the mutual benefit of the town and the children.

The school, which serves Highworth and its outlying villages, has capacity for 240 children.

Pupils take on responsibilities including school council, peer mediators, play leaders, eco warriors, reading buddies and class helpers. Children are encouraged to ‘strive for the best’ in all walks of life.

Headteacher Nicola Anderton said: “At Southfield, we feel it is important to give our children opportunities and experiences outside of the curriculum.

“We do this by providing a wide range of after-school clubs. Year 4, 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to take part in Forest Schools on school grounds or at Coleshill.

“All year groups have an allotment, where they grow a range of herbs fruit and vegetables. Children in Year 6 can learn how to be safe through a cycling proficiency scheme run by the local authority.”

The school is particularly proud of its accreditations, which include the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark, Investors in People, Anti Bullying Accreditation, Healthy Schools, Eco School and Comic Relief Ambassador.
