Track flooding causes huge disruptions for train passengers

Swindon Advertiser: Services between London and Cardiff passing through Swindon have been cancelled Services between London and Cardiff passing through Swindon have been cancelled

FLOODING on the railway line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway is causing massive disruption to the trains running through the area.

The line between Swindon and Bristol has opened within the last 90 minutes, with all services currently running with delays of up to 30 minutes.

Dan Panes, of First Great Western, said: "My understanding, at the moment, is trains are running through the area, albeit on course at a lower speed.

"All services are up and running with 30-minute delays.

"The services for the rest of the day depends not on the rain, but the flood waters coming off the embankments.

"That's our big challenge at the moment."

Trains at 15 minutes past the hour from London Paddington to Cardiff Central were cancelled this morning, along with trains at 55 minutes past the hour going in the opposite direction, starting with the 9.55am service.

The 45 minutes past the hour services from London Paddington to Swansea were being diverted via Bath Spa, with calls at Didcot Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood added to the route.

Road transport was taking passengers to Bristol Parkway from Filton Abbey Wood and vice versa.
