BUDGET conscious brides and grooms are heading for a new charity wedding shop at the Brunel Centre.

The shop, next to the large Sue Ryder store, has been set up to coincide with the Centre’s wedding fair and will be open today, tomorrow and on Monday.

Stock includes wedding dresses, men’s formal suits, accessories and hats. There are outfits for bridesmaids, pageboys and brides’ and bridegrooms’ mums.

The charity provides a range of vital services for people with life-changing illnesses, both in this country and abroad.

The shop was prepared by volunteer Tara Jayne, 36, from Old Town, who is a freelance sales, marketing and merchandising specalist.

She said: “Sharon Miles, who runs the Sue Ryder Shop, is a very good friend of mine. I just started helping out here when I had free time.

“We were talking last year about raising extra funds and I said, ‘You have a lot of bridal stuff, why don’t you set up a bridal shop? The Brunel are running a wedding fair next year so I’ll set one up and staff it over the three days.’”

Prices of items vary, but they include wedding dresses for around £100, men’s suits at about £80 and hats for as little as £10.

Some items were donated by the public and others by businesses.

“Every penny goes to the charity,” Tara added. “There’s nothing taken and no wages being paid out of this.”
