Wilts and Swindon crime commissioner at London talks

Swindon Advertiser: Crime commissioner Angus Macpherson Crime commissioner Angus Macpherson

THE Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, Angus Macpherson, has had talks in London with the Policing Minister.

Mr Macpherson joined his Dorset counterpart, Martyn Underhill, at a meeting with Damian Green at Westminster. The Commissioners raised a number of topics during their hour-long session, including Neighbourhood Justice Panels.

Mr Macpherson said: “Both Martyn and I support Neighbourhood Justice Panels.

“They have been piloted in Swindon and I have now commissioned them to be rolled out across Wiltshire.

“Martyn and I spoke to the minister about NJPs and about how the role of the panels could be extended.”

Neighbourhood Justice Panels are part of the restorative justice field for which PCCs are now responsible.

The Commissioners went on to raise with the minister their concerns about court closures.

“They also discussed funding for so-called appropriate adults to support people taken into police custody who are vulnerable or suffering mental illness.”

Neighbourhood justice panels. What the furlk are they?

Look McPherson if you ever read this, you have cost this county more than enough wasted money.

You preside over one of the most waste full police farces anywhere except South Africa .

Get the crime figures down, stop fan!y ing around going to London. This is were it at sunshine. Never heard of vidio conferenceing, how much are you claiming for that little day trip and was it all business or was a visit to somewhere else "squeezed" in.

Maybe you used the helicopter. You professed to know everything about whatever it is your supposed to be doing, but I don't see any results. Waster.

One for you all.

How long in weeks before Wiltshire police farce start bleating and winging and cry their little eyes out for this.

Cop gear: Dubai police force’s latest squad car… a £170,000, 207mph McLaren MP4-12C that joins a fleet including a Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and Ferrari
State-of-the-art patrol car three times more powerful than British police cars.

It could be used in conjunction with the new 10.5million pound helicopter they just ordered .

The biggest improvement that could be made to the Police in this country is to merge some of the 40+ forces into a more manageable number (less than 10). Save on all the individual PCC's, HR directors, Purchasing Managers ETC and use the money saved for front line officers / public facing support staff.

Do the same with fire and rescue, ambulances and NHS trusts.

As long as this kind of dangerously naive and massively unduly lenient sentencing is allowed to continue, seemingly unchecked, in Swindon's courtrooms, it makes absolutely no difference what the PCC does or doesn't do:

But she did spend a "MASSIVE" four months on remand, surely we should all be feeling sorry for her and fighting to get her some compensation for all the hardship she must have gone through.

Assault with a deadly weapon and threats to kill it’s not as if she did much wrong.

(sarcasm incase you did not pick up on it).

Successive government Home Secretaries have quite categorically stated that ANYONE convicted of using a knife to inflict injuries on another person WILL go to prison.

And yet here we have a woman stabbing an elderly woman in front of her vulnerable son and NOTHING comes of it, she strolls free from court.

This sentence is manifestly unduly lenient but nothing will be done about it because the deluded CPS will be happy they secured a (completely pointless) conviction and, of course, the defence team will be skipping around their office laughing their heads off.

At least it got to court.

I was assaulted over three months ago and the Police have done nothing.

It took them a month to take statements and that only happened after I chased half a dozen times.

Since then. . . . silence.

Woman was beaten up in own home, physical injuries, hospitalised and the police took 8hrs to turn up.
Didn’t want to deal with it, and were told by me they would be interfering with the course of justice if they didn’t carry out a mandatory arrest as assailant’s presence was known.
Red faced and huffy puffy they had NO choice, statements made, the assailant was arrested and returned by them a few hours later and nothing heard for 7mnths, continually requests to plod resulted in an anonymous phone call from a sergeant plod of Swindon police station, He informs “we will not be proceeding with this, "why" I don’t have to tell you, good bye.
Sort that out McPherson person. Not taking the pi^s with jolly’s at my expense. You waste of time and money.

And what's the point of the expense of taking these criminals to court if all that happens when they're convicted is that they stroll free from that court?

It's literally an expensive yet completely pointless exercise.

In many ways, I'd feel even more slighted by the system I'm forced to pay for if they DID take the criminal to court and let them stroll free. At least in your case you've only suffered injury, the judge didn't get to add insult to it.

So only injury.

I thought that was a CRIMINAL offence.
