STUDENTS from the Oakfield Project thinking about their futures visited Swindon Town Football Club for a special careers fair.

Around 150 students from the project and students from other schools turned out to the event on Wednesday, where 12 different exhibitors were on hand to talk about some of the options open to them.

Paul Wainwright, a youth project worker at the project based in Marlowe Avenue, said: “Some schools and colleges offer other careers fair events like this and there are also open days students can go to, so it’s just somewhere else that students can find out about their options.”

The Oakfield Project is an alternative education provision which works in partnership with local schools to support some of the town’s most vulnerable youngsters, and the annual fair is an opportunity to help them make decisions about their future.

Paul said: “I think it’s important that they have this opportunity to find out more about what’s available to them.

“Some of our students would not feel comfortable in going along to open days and other things so it’s a really good place for them to come and find out in just one place.”
