A LOCAL MP has welcomed news of business growth in the town after a record number of new businesses registered in a three month period of last year.
Justin Tomlinson MP said he was delighted with data from Duport.co.uk showing a new Q3 record in the number of business registrations in Swindon with 399 new companies created from July to September 2013.
Additionally, a report from the Secretary of State of Business, Innovation and Skills shows that 2,413 businesses incorporated in Swindon between March 2012 and March 2013. This represents a 32 per cent increase in the number of incorporations that occurred between March 2009 and March 2010.
The figure suggests Swindon is now incorporating more new businesses per year than before the financial crisis of 2008.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I welcome the news that Swindon is both creating entirely new businesses as well as expanding those already in existence.
“New business incorporations are a fantastic measure of a healthy economy since companies do so once they have established their roots and expanded to a certain size.
“I am proud of Swindon for attracting new businesses, especially at such an extraordinary rate.
“A skilled labour force, incredible infrastructure, and the desire to accommodate new commerce is the driving force behind a quickly expanding business sector.
“I will continue to work with local organisations such as Outset Swindon who provide mentoring and support for those considering starting up a new business.”
