A MAN has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Ferndale Road.

In the early hours of this morning a woman fell victim to the attack in the alleyway which separates Ferndale newsagents with Fitzpatrick’s Boxing Gym in the road which connects Gorse Hill with Cheney Manor.

The victim is currently being interviewed by Wiltshire Police and more specific details are due to be released in the coming hours.

The nature of the assault has not yet been revealed by the police, who are appealing for witnesses who might have been in the Ferndale Road area early this morning.

A police car and crime scene investigation van were parked outside the gym, which is owned and run by George Groves’s trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick, this morning.

Paddy told the Adver he did not know why the police were outside his gym this morning and had no memory of anything untoward playing out overnight.

The alleyway was also blocked with police tape. Employees at the neighbouring newsagents said the police had been on the scene before they opened at 5am.

Police left the scene at approximately 10.45am.

Anyone with information should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
