DEVELOPING children’s creative side is the key to success at Chiseldon Primary School.

Every pupil is given the chance to learn a range of skills so they are fully rounded individuals when they move into secondary school.

“Our school value is Developing Life Long Learners, which is what we strive to achieve,” said headteacher Spencer Allen.

“We have put together a creative curriculum which energises all the children. Every pupil learns a musical instrument, goes swimming and learns ice skating.

“This type of high-impact learning is important because it gives the children important life skills.

“For example, the school tuck shop is run by our Year 6 pupils. They are in charge of everything from sorting the stock and trying to make a profit. This is about developing the children as a whole.”

Although there is a focus on creativity, huge importance is placed on the core subjects so everyone gets a full education and has all the basic skills they need when they start secondary education.

“All the children really enjoy the way things are done here,” said Mr Allen, who has been at the school for just under a year.

“It used to be that the children thought it was just another day at school but now they come skipping through the gate.

“There is a very positive atmosphere at the school now with all the pupils and staff pulling in the same direction.”

A big emphasis is put on PE and the school has large grounds to explore. There are also a huge variety of after-school clubs they can take part in, all of which add the completeness of their development.
