Market manager Kardien Gerbands - aka Gerb - talks about what's going on at Swindon's farmers' markets.
IT IS Farmhouse Breakfast week this week so look out for posters highlighting the array of potential breakfast materials available at the farmers’ market.
Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an annual celebration championing the importance of breakfast which aims to get the nation to Shake Up Their Wake Up! 47% of people regularly skip breakfast during the week so the aim is to encourage people to enjoy a healthy breakfast more regularly.
Managed by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, Farmhouse Breakfast Week is run on behalf of arable farmers who grow crops such as wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast and demonstrate the wealth of wonderful breakfast produce available around the country. The aim is to encourage people to think about where their breakfast foods come from and support the cereal farmers who produce it.
At the farmers market all those using flour in their produce are required to buy direct from their most local mill, which for most of our producers at the Swindon Outlet market every Sunday 10-4, is FWP Mathews of Shipton under Wychwood and Wessex Mill of Wantage.
Did you know; 21% of people skip breakfast so they can spend longer in bed!
