SHAW Residents’ Association (SRA) kicked off a year of litter picks in their village on Saturday, with 90 minutes of filling bin bags and gardening around the community.
The association has set five dates for 2014 when it will call on committee members and volunteers from the area to help out with tidying up the village centre garden and picking up litter.
There are plans in place for repeats on March 8, May 10, September 13 and November 8.
Speaking after Saturday’s successful operation, which included 15 volunteers, SRA chair Kevin Fisher said: “We carry out regular litter picks and have, in the past, done a fair bit of work in Shaw village centre.
“We have planted hundreds of bulbs in the village gardens and hope they will come out in the spring time.
“For this year we have planned a series of dates. There are five throughout the year and we are hoping to get people to come along to litter pick or do some village centre tidying.”
Anyone interested in attending should meet at The Village Inn in Ramleaze Drive at 10.30am.
