A LOVE of literature will be used to fire cupid’s arrow when the Central Library plays host to a speed dating event.

The Regent Circus library is holding its first ever speed dating evening on Valentine’s Day between 7.15pm and 8.45pm to offer an alternative to the more traditional matchmaking venues such as bars or clubs.

Speed dating in libraries first started out in Belgium and has become a regular activity in US libraries. Individuals will be encouraged to bring their favourite book, CD or DVD to act as the perfect ice breaker.

Those taking part will be asked to score potential partners and the couple who are most matched will win a £50 voucher redeemable for a meal for two at 20 at the Kings, which has been donated by Arkells Brewery.

The speed dating event is open to anyone aged 20 and over and individuals can register in advance via Eventbrite at www.bit.ly/JwuoOF although places are limited.

Tickets cost £1.50 for library members and £2.50 for non-members and are payable on the evening. Ticket prices include nibbles and a glass of wine.
