A VICIOUS assault outside a town centre bar on Saturday night left a 25-year-old man missing his two front teeth.

Shortly before 2am on Sunday, February 2 the victim was assaulted outside Vodka Revolution on Bridge Street and police had been called to investigate.

But reports of the incident have been conflicted, and it is alleged that two groups of males clashed outside the bar.

As a result the victim sustained severe injuries, including losing his two front teeth and suffering a large gash to his head.

The man is said to be recovering from the attack, and following initial police enquiries an 18-year-old man from Bristol and a 19-year-old man from Swindon were arrested on suspicion of assault.

Both men have now been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Investigating officers are calling for anyone who was in the busy town centre street between 1.30am and 2am on Sunday to contact them with any information, no matter how small, to allow them to piece together the events leading to the attack.

Christopher Gotch, investigating officer for domestic abuse at Wiltshire Police, said enquiries were making early progress, but that reports of events would need to be substantiated from those who were in the area at the time.

“We are in the very early stages of the investigation, and we are trying to keep an open mind at this stage,” he said.

“The 25-year-old who was injured is absolutely fine now, but did suffer quite nasty injuries.

“Really we are just trying to find out the level of violence that was involved and what exactly was said between any of the parties to spark the incident.

“We need a quite detailed account of what happened and what people actually saw.

“I am hoping there were quite a few people in the area at the time who may have either been involved or may have seen something which could help us in our investigation.

“Any information, no matter how small, could shed some light on what occurred. In particular we need descriptions of those involved.

”At the moment the only arrests that have been made are the 18-year-old and 19-year-old. We are not certain of the numbers of those involved in the incident at this stage.”

Officers are keen to hear from any witnesses who were in the Bridge Street area of Swindon between 1.30am and 2am on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christopher Gotch at Wiltshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
