COMMUNITY radio station Swindon 105.5 is celebrating its sixth birthday with a rock ‘n’ roll party on Valentines Day.

The evening event will feature music from Rockers Re-United, comedian Demetrius Deech, Swindon’s own Elvis impersonator, Danny D Disco, and a couple of romantic numbers from Olympia of Stagecoach.

Rockers Re-United said: “We are delighted to support the town’s community radio service. It will be a fun night.”

The evening will take place at the New Century Club in Bright Street from 7pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from the New Century Club and Swindon 105.5.

Shirley Ludford, station manager at Swindon 105.5, said: “It’s a great venue, good access and friendly management team, who we would like to thank for their help.

“The station launched in March 2008 and has developed so much during that time.”

She said the station brings in young people to learn about radio production. “With our current studio and production space we provide a wide range of training and support for people of all ages and abilities and also provide the only school training placements for students age 14 plus in the region,” she said.

“We fundraise for all we do, and it’s good to celebrate the tremendous amount of dedication and achievement shown by so many.”

Tickets for the evening on February 14 are £5 each, available from Swindon 105.5 and the New Century Club on 525743. Doors open from 7pm.
