REDDITCH United are battling on two fronts to secure their first silverware since 2008.

United booked their place in the semi-finals of the Red Insure League Cup on Monday night with a 3-1 win over Division One Central side Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Goals for Jermaine Hylton, Ashley Sammons and a Tom McGarry own goal made sure of victory.

With two of the three quarter-finals set to be played last night, the club were waiting to see who they might face.

United have another chance of silverware at The Valley Stadium on Tuesday when they take on Conference North side Worcester City (7.45pm ko) in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-finals.

The Reds have not won a cup since Gary Whild guided them to the County Senior Cup in 2008, although they did reach the final last year before losing to holders Stourbridge.

However, United have already knocked out Conference Premier Kidderminster Harriers in the previous round.

Manager Liam McDonald said: “I would love to win a cup for the fans.

“It’s been quite a while since the club won one and anything I can do to give the supporters something to cheer about would be great.

“But we’ve got a tough game against Worcester, they are in good form at the moment.”

United saw their home clash against Truro rained off on Saturday but are hoping Saturday’s Calor Southern League Premier clash at struggling AFC Totton will be going ahead (3pm ko).

McDonald’s young troops have slipped into the bottom half of the table but are still aiming for a top ten finish.

Winger Jermaine Hylton is expected to be fit for Saturday after picking up a minor knock against Beaconsfield on Saturday.

The youngster signed a deal which keeps him at the club until the end of the season last week.

He is one of a number of gifted young players that have impressed for United.

McDonald reassured supporters he was not expecting to lose any players, despite United’s good performances attracting attention from higher ranked outfits.

He said: “I know the fans worry we might lose players who aren’t contracted to the club.

“But we won’t be losing any of our important players, they like it here and are enjoying their football.”

Redditch have said a fond farewell to full-back Ben Birch, who joined league rivals Stourbridge last week.

He follows the same path trod by the likes of Luke Benbow and Will Richards in recent years.

McDonald added: “ We wish Ben best of luck. We only had him here for two or three weeks and he was only helping us out while we had some injuries.”
