WILTSHIRE Police is appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Swindon on New Year's Day.

The incident took place at approximately 2.30am on January 1 on Sherbourne Place, Nythe, Swindon.

A group of friends were walking to a house party when they were approached by a lone male who threatened one of the group and told him to hand over his phone.

This male then punched the victim to the head twice. The suspect then ran off.

As a result of the attack, the victim's jaw was broken in two places and he spent several days in hospital.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 5ft-6ins to 5ft-8ins, aged late 20s to late 30s, of a large chunky build with a bald/shaven head. He was wearing a grey hooded top and dark jogging bottoms.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Nythe area of Swindon in the early hours of New Year's Day.
