SOUTH Swindon MP Robert Buckland has become patron of Swindon Children’s Cancer And Leukaemia Movement (CALM).

Robert and CALM celebrated the appointment yesterday afternoon at Lazerquest, in Shaw Ridge.

The venue will also support the charity during the next year.

Robert said: “I am honoured and delighted to have become patron of CALM in this, their 30th year. The work they do to support the families of children who are undergoing treatment for cancer and leukaemia is invaluable.”

The charity approached him to become patron in recognition of the work he has done to support the charity during the past four years.

He has helped with bag-packing at Morrison’s in Haydon Wick, donated prizes for various events and introduced the charity to sponsors for an annual golf day.

He also helped to get support from B&Q Extra, who adopted CALM as their charity of 2013/14, and supported the charity during a similar partnership with Sainsbury’s Bridgemead in 2012/13.

The charity was set up in 1984 by parents of children going through treatment for cancer and leukaemia, and have since then continued to support other parents in similar situations.
