A SECTION of the roundabout on the junction of the A419 and junction 15 of the M4 were closed yesterday following a three-vehicle collision just after 4pm.

Severe disruption was expected after police, fire and ambulance services were called to attend.

One man was trapped in his vehicle and had to be cut free by fire crews as a precaution.

The area of the roundabout, heading southbound on the A419, was closed for an hour while the fire service freed him.

Insp Lindsey Winter, of Wiltshire Police, said: “This incident is expected to cause serious traffic-related issues.

“The location is going to cause huge difficulties. Two lanes are currently closed on the roundabout, and there is a possibility that all lanes will require closing. There are some injuries involved.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “We were not called to the incident until 4.30pm after the ambulance service called for our help.

“There were three vehicles involved, two cars and one van.

“One man was medically trapped in his vehicle and efforts were made to release him using hydraulic cutting equipment.”

A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said: “The incident was reported to us at 4.06pm as having three vehicles involved.

“We requested for assistance from the fire service in extricating a patient. We had a paramedic and rapid response vehicle, backed up by an ambulance. There were no reports of any other injuries, and we were not requested to send another vehicle.”
