Family terrified by car collision
2:59pm Monday 24th February 2014 in News
A CAR which ploughed into the doorstep of a house in Curtis Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, has left resident Tilma Rios frightened for her children’s lives.
For the second time in only three months, a car careered into a house on the street, driving straight into the front of a house, sending bricks flying, scaring residents and causing structural damage to the exterior wall.
Police attended the scene at around 5am and a man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. Insp Lindsey Winter, of Wiltshire Police, said the driver of the black Vauxhall involved in the crash has been arrested and remanded in custody.
It is the second time in only three months that a car has smashed into a property near the road’s junction with Crombey Street, and more than 11 such accidents have taken place in the last 20 years.
Tilma, a mother of two, said that it has happened so often she is used to the sound of a car smashing into a house.
The 43-year-old is concerned that one day someone will be seriously injured.
She said: “It’s really scary because I worry about letting tthe children play in the living room. Every time I see a lorry come along at the junction I am worried.”
