PUPILS at Covingham Park Primary School took park in the school’s second Bling Your Bike Day earlier this month.

Pupils decorated their bicycles, scooters, and themselves as part of the school’s initiative to encourage green travel.

Youngsters not only decorated their mode of transport but they then took part in a parade in front of Bike It adviser and trainer Sharon Brentall, from transport charity Sustrans.

Avril Brown, school travel ambassador at Covingham Park, said: “It went really well.

“So many students took part it was difficult to judge, and Sharon said it was the best turn out she had seen yet.

“I was very pleased with how many children took part.”

Around 80 children took part in the event, with everyone receiving a prize, such as Bike It stickers and badges.

Because of poor weather, the children had to parade through the main hall instead of outside as originally planned.

The event was part of the school’s ongoing commitment to sustainable travel after introducing a walking bus and five-minute walking zones near to the school.

Next month, the school will take part in the Big Pedal, a national competition organised by Sustrans which will encourage youngsters to use sustainable transport to get to school.
