CAMPAIGNERS have called on dog owners to take their pets on a special walk to raise funds in the battle against cancer at the weekend.

Members of the Swindon Cancer Research UK group were out in force on Saturday distributing flyers and promoting their upcoming Best Paw Forward event at the Coate Water.

The team is hoping to enlist 120 dogs, and their owners, for the mass dog walking event on April 27 in a bid to collect around £3,000 towards vital medical research.

“So far the response from people has been really encouraging,” said Sarah Blackmore-Heal, the Swindon Cancer Research UK chairman.

“We were trying to get as many people interested as possible.

“It’s the first time we’ve done the event so we’re taking things slowly so there will be a limit of 120 places so I am urging people to sign up as quickly as possible.

“It’s going to be great fun and it’s something different to do to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

“We have had a lot of support from local vets and each dog will get a certificate when they complete it.”

The event will take place on April 27 between 11am until 1pm.
