THE CIVIC Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett was rammed last night(feb27) as dozens turned up to hear about plans to build a Tesco in Marsh Farm.
Although an application has not yet been submitted to Wiltshire Council, interest has been express to build 300 homes and a new Tesco supermarket and other community facilities at the site.
Although the site comes under the jurisdiction of Lydiard Tregoze, the proposals have raised concerns in Royal Wootton Bassett because of the effect the supermarket will have on the high street and the impact the number of new homes will have on existing infrastructure.
Tesco had not brought along many plans and had not prepared to answer questions, because they expected to have a meeting solely with the Town Council.
But because all meetings of the Town Council are open to the public, many residents were aware of the meeting and wanted to attend.
