PEATMOOR residents are still waiting for letters from Taylor Wimpey about what is being done with money ring-fenced for local community projects.

Last Thursday it was reported that hundreds of letters had been sent to neighbours around the controversial Ridgeway Farm development in west Swindon and north Wiltshire telling them where section 106 money – provided by housebuilders whenever a large development is carried out for use in that area – would be spent.

But Mary Martin, the Conservative Party candidate for the Shaw ward, said that she had heard of no residents who had received the letters.

She said: “They may have been sent out but nobody I know in west Swindon has received them. “I live in Middleaze but I have been talking to people throughout west Swindon and nobody in Peatmoor that I know has received one, and I’ve had people asking me about what their plans are. And they are the people who want to know what is going to be done with the section 106 money because the development impacts them the most.”

The concern is that this is a repeat of when residents did not receive letters about the development, and ended up missing important public meetings.

Mary said: “This time I just don’t want people to miss out.”

Taylor Wimpey said that letters were sent out to keep residents informed but some may have been left out.

A spokesman from the company said: “As a responsible housebuilder, we sent out this letter to keep those residents who will be most affected by our Ridgeway Farm development up-to-date.

“We are unable to send the letter to every home in the area surrounding the site, but we would be more than happy to send letters out. Residents can email their postal address to ridgewayfarm@ webbpr.net.”

Work on the 700 home development has yet to begin but temporary cabins and access roads have been put in for workers to use after permission for the first 218 homes was granted in December.

The development has seen fierce opposition from residents in Purton and west Swindon since plans were first laid out in November 2012.
