SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has reassured Royal Wootton Bassett residents they will be consulted about plans to build 300 homes and a new store on Marsh Farm.

Tesco did not expect the scores of people who packed out the Civic Centre in Station Road last Thursday to find out details of the chain’s proposals for the town, which also include community facilities.

But Sophie Akokhia, regional corporate affairs manager at Tesco, reassured residents that they will have ample opportunity to view the plans before a planning application is submitted to Wiltshire Council.

She said: “The team will be undergoing a wide-ranging consultation, including a public exhibition, in the coming weeks. This is important to help shape the planning application before it is submitted to the council.

“I have spoken to many local residents, including some at the town council meeting, who welcome our plans. Young families, in particular, recognise the benefits of new homes and improved shopping choice in Royal Wootton Bassett. The potential for more than 100 new jobs will also be a boost to the local economy.”
