WALCOT Community Charity Shop and Library donated £200 to help start a fund to train youngsters to be youth workers.

The charity in Sussex Square handed over a cheque on Friday for the programme to be delivered by New College.

Councillor Derique Montaut (Lab, Liden, Eldene and Park South) said the fund would tackle anti-social behaviour caused by youngsters around Cavendish Square.

He said: “The Park South Community Centre supports a lot of young people from the Parks area with a youth club.

“But the youth club has had some problems over the years and I thought it could be a good opportunity to offer to the youngsters a training programme to help them become their own youth workers.

“It would help them with employment and it would help to prevent anti-social behaviour as well as crowding around Cavendish Square.

“But before we can offer this to the young people we need to raise the money to be able to put them on the training.

“The charity shop kindly offered some money to get this started.”
