WILTSHIRE Council is making the most of the recent spell of dry weather by getting teams out fixing roads badly damaged by the recent heavy rains.
The council has dealt with more than 1,250 flooding-related incidents across the county this year.
Forty per cent more potholes were reported in the first two months of 2014 than in the same period last year. The council was told of more than 2,600 carriageway defects by the public or council staff over the period, compared to about 1,900 last year.
The council said earlier this year it was investing an extra £250,000 to fix potholes. The money is in addition to the £52m increase in road spending announced in November last year that will see 150 miles of the county’s roads resurfaced every year until 2020.
Urgent repairs are being carried out by 22 community stewards using material which can be used even where potholes are full of water.
Highways maintenance contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places says it is targeting damage that can be repaired without the need to close roads.
Pothole reports are made via the MyWiltshire app, social media, email and calls to the council on 0300 456 0105, as well as by the council’s area teams around the county.
