A CHARITY car wash was held in Stratton at the weekend to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event was organised by local firefighters at the fire station in Highworth Road.

As well as car washing in return for donations, the Stratton crew were able to advise on home fire safety and provide information to anyone interested in joining Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service as an ‘on-call’ firefighter.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their spouses and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, as well as giving financial support to those who need it.

The charity works with 11,000 beneficiaries every year at a cost of £9m per annum, and these services are financed almost exclusively by fundraising.
