Drug dealer given a seven-year jail term
2:43pm Thursday 13th March 2014 in News
A dealer who came down from the Midlands to return to selling drugs on the streets of Swindon has been jailed for seven years.
Jay Wright’s lengthy sentence was due to this being his third conviction for an offence involving the trade in hard drugs.
But the man who gave the 25-year-old the use of his Penhill home to deal from was given a suspended sentence.
Lee Sparks, who has 99 previous convictions, was given the lenient sentence after a judge heard the 33-year-old was off drugs and in work.
At a trial earlier this year a jury at Swindon Crown Court heard details of a police raid on his home in Upavon Court on Saturday September 1, 2012.
In the property they found heroin and crack cocaine which was being prepared for street dealing along with the two men and Sparks’ on-off girlfriend Helen Westall.
Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, said the heroin was particularly pure at 40 to 50 percent.
Wright, Sparks and 26-year-old Westall all denied two charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply but the men were convicted following a trial.
Westall was found not guilty.
