An nine-year-old girl has died after being hit by a bus in Moredon this evening.

Police closed a section of Moredon Road following the serious traffic collision at around 5.50pm and paramedics worked to attempt to save the girl's life but were unable to do so.

Police serious collision investigators are still on the scene and road closures are set to be in place for some time.

Catherine Kingwell, control room supervisor for Wiltshire Police, said: "Emergency services were called at 5.50pm to a collision involving an eight-year-old girl and a bus in the area of Blair Parade, Moredon.

"Despite the best efforts of medical teams, the young girl tragically died at the scene.

"Police collision investigators are still on the scene and the road is closed while a full investigation is being carried out.

"Our thoughts are with the girl's family, who are being supported by specialist officers at this time."

An officer at the scene said the young local girl was out with her brother and a friend on her scooter when she was hit by the Thamesdown Transport number 14 bus.

Noone has been arrested over the incident.

The road, which was closed at the junction with Cheney Manor Road, further along Moredon Road and at the roundabout at Thames Avenue and Whitworth Road for around three hours, reopened at 9pm.
