THREE suspected crooks have so far been collared after the Adver teamed up with Wiltshire Police to net criminals for unsolved crimes.

The force has released CCTV images of people wanted for crimes, ranging from mobile phone thefts to shoplifting, over the past week and, of seven, three have so far been caught.

In two of the cases the suspect has handed themself in, while in a third a tip-off from the public has resulted in a suspect being identified and officers are following it up.

The first crime we featured was a man who spat at staff in Co-op, Rodbourne Road, on October 25 last year. The suspect contacted the police after seeing the feature in the paper and a local resolution has been agreed with the victim.

Local resolutions usually involve some form of reparation for the victim, which could be as simple as an apology face-to-face, without resorting to the courts.

On Tuesday we ran the appeal about the theft of a jacket from New Look on November 15 last year and the name of a suspect has been given to police to be followed up. Another suspect made himself known after seeing a picture of a man stealing six gammon joints from Co-op on Aiken Road on November 18.

Community beat manager for Swindon Town Centre, PC Paul Bezzant, said: “Community intelligence is at the heart of all that we do and we rely on a stream of information from members of the public.

“This campaign allows us to share images of people we would like to speak to in connection with certain incidents with the hope they will come forward and help us with our enquiries.

“So far, the results have been very positive and I would ask that anyone with information on any of these incidents to come forward immediately. Finally, I would like to thank the public for their co-operation with this campaign so far.”
