LASSOES at the ready, actors-cum-cowboys and cowgirls offered passers-by a taste of their upcoming performance of Oklahoma! on Royal Wootton Bassett High Street.

Clad in their stage costumes, members of the Wootton Bassett Light Operatic Society promoted their production of the Broadway musical on Saturday, going as far as demonstrating their skill with a rope by lassoing lamp posts.

The four-night show opens at the memorial hall on April 9 and is about romance in the Wild West.

“We have been preparing for six months,” said chairman Mike Davies, who will play the lead role, Curly.

“We started chorus work in September after the auditions. We put on the show before, about 25 years ago, and some of the people who were in it the first time will be playing new parts in this show.

“One of our cast, Emily Baker, has just won the junior championship at the Music Festival singing a song from the show ‘I Cain’t Say No.”

Tickets cost £9.50, or £8 with concession. Family passes for two adults and two children are £32. Visit www.wblos.org.uk
